Fluency (Stuttering)

A fluency disorder is a disruption in the rate and rhythm of connected speech. A child with a fluency disorder may repeat parts of words, whole words, or phrases when trying to get their message across. They may also present with blocking or getting stuck and unable to get their message out at all. Another type of disfluency is prolonging a sound (e.g. I sssssaw a cat). Children may also present with frequent filler words such as “like, um,” and “uh”.
