Receptive & Expressive Language
Language consists of expressive and receptive skills. Receptive language refers to one’s ability to understand language and follow directions, and expressive language refers to the use of words and non-verbal cues to communicate, Receptive language skills including following directions, understanding vocabulary and concept words, and understanding the meaning of messages and stories. Expressive language skills include the ability to use appropriate vocabulary, use correct grammar, use organized sentence structures, and express messages clearly.
